Who are the Friends?The Friends of the Arboretum have supported the New Hanover County Arboretum since 1986, providing essential financial backing for maintenance and key projects like the Contemplation Garden and Children’s Garden. We also help fund the local N.C. Cooperative Extension’s vital programming, allowing their expert staff to deliver research-based education to the community through the Arboretum and programs throughout the county. |
| Support SpotlightNC State Horticulture Showcase GardenThe Friends of the New Hanover County Arboretum are currently funding a major initiative: the NC State Horticultural Showcase Garden. This new garden will prominently feature plants bred by NC State University’s Dr. Tom Ranney, a JC Raulston Distinguished Professor. Dr. Ranney’s innovative breeding work combines horticulture, genetics, pathology, and ecology to develop plants that are not only uniquely ornamental but also highly disease-resistant and regionally adaptive. The Friends provided an initial $37,000 to renovate the space and purchase the plants, supporting this cutting-edge display of botanical science. This garden renovation is expected to be complete in the spring of 2026! |
